Ed Carlson, 65, of Paola, KS passed away Sunday, June 19, 2011. Edwin was born to Hans and Verna Thomsen Carlson on October 16, 1945 at Swan River, Manitoba, Canada. Edwin was raised in Falls City, Nebraska. He graduated from Falls City High School in 1964 and continued his education at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. He graduated in 1968 with a BS degree in Education. He was united in marriage to Judy Huebner on August 27, 1966. Upon graduation, they moved to Paola in 1968. Edwin taught and was a principal at First Lutheran School for four years. He then taught at USD 368 for a time. After teaching he worked at Kansas Iron Works, then at Taylor Forge Engineered Systems as project administrator from 1977 to 2004. Edwin was a member of the First Lutheran Church where he was congregational chairman, an elder, and on the endowment and scholarship committees. Also, he was a past member of the Paola Lions Club. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents. Edwin is survived by his wife Judith of the home, children Kristin and her husband Enoch Petersen of Ankara, Turkey, Alisande and her husband Dan Duncan of Fayetteville, NC, a brother James Carlson of St. Charles, MO, a sister and brother-in-law Linda and Hans Basner of Aiken, SC, and five grandchildren Sydney Petersen, Lucas Petersen, Hannah Duncan, Abigail Duncan, and Jacob Duncan. Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church Endowment.
