Edward Walter Wheaton, 99, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away at his home Thursday, December 22, 2016. A celebration of life service will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, January 16, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends immediately following the service. Edward was born Thursday, September 13, 1917, in Independence, Missouri, the son of Clarence and Angela (Denham) Wheaton. Edward was united in marriage to Dorothy Browning January 8, 1939, at Independence, Missouri. They enjoyed 78 years of marriage. She survives of their home. Other survivors include his daughter, Jacquelyn Kramer of Ottawa; sons, Walter Wheaton and wife Darlene of Cheyenne, Wyoming and John Wheaton and wife Billie Kaye of Fromberg, Montana; brother, Richard Wheaton of Independence, Missouri; sister, Katherine Matthews of Kalamazoo, Michigan; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Angela Wheaton; brothers, Le Roy Wheaton and Tom Wheaton and sister, Ellen Wheaton. In his youth he lived in several states. Edward’s early jobs included CCC in Idaho, Gleaners, General Mills and Brunson Instrument in Kansas City. He was a machinist at the Standard Oil refinery in Sugar Creek, Missouri, for many years. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering from UMKC in 1966. He then worked for Marley in Kansas City until 1968 and Honeywell in Minneapolis until 1972. He was employed by petroleum companies at refineries in Lybia, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia until retiring to Ottawa in 1984.
