Edward W. “Eddie” Ferguson, Jr., 74, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 10, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church. Family will meet with friends from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, with honors by the Kansas National Guard. Eddie was born Saturday, September 12, 1942, in rural Wellsville, Kansas, the son of Edward W. and Vera (Potter) Ferguson. He lived in the Wellsville and Ottawa areas his entire life. He graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1960. Eddie served in the Kansas National Guard from September 1961 to September 1967 attaining the rank of Specialist 5th Class. His commendations included expert carbine. Edward was united in marriage with Nancy Devin June 17, 1966, in Ottawa. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his three children, Angie Snider and husband Kirby, Julie Bunce and husband Dale, and Mike Ferguson and wife Jill, all of Ottawa; four brothers, Fred Ferguson and wife Marlene, Larry Ferguson and wife Miriam, Roger Ferguson and wife Camilla, all of Ottawa, and Bill Ferguson and wife Rhonda of Pomona; thirteen grandchildren, Drew Snider, Luke Snider, Kate Ferguson, Max Ferguson, Jake Matney, Dylan Matney, Lacey Blount, Meggan Scott, Justin Bunce, Jordan Bunce, Riley Bunce, Kati Bunce, and Cole Bunce; seven great-grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Vera Ferguson. Eddie was a self-employed, lifelong farmer. He was also employed as a manager in the parts department and sales for Underwood Equipment, John Deere Dealership from 1960 to 1979. He was a member of the Ottawa COOP and the award winner for the Monsanto America’s Farmers Grow Communities donating the prize money to Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Eddie was a devoted family man and his favorite activities centered on family gatherings, grandchildren and playing with his dog, Toby “Cody”. He enjoyed traveling, grandchildren’s sporting events, four- wheelers, motorcycles, Black Jack or any kind of card game, puzzles, and wrestling with his grandsons.
