Edward “Ron” Jeffries, 78, of Wellsville, Kansas, passed away Monday, July 18, 2016. Family will meet with friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., Friday, July 22, 2016, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 P.M., at the mortuary. Interment Wellsville Cemetery, Wellsville, Kansas, with military honors by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Ron was born Monday, May 23, 1938, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Edward T. and Mildred E. (Dunkin) Jeffries. He was a lifelong Franklin County resident, residing in Ottawa and Wellsville. He graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1957. Ron was united in marriage with Patricia Canfield December 15, 1967 in Ottawa. She preceded him in death July 29, 1989. He was also preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his four children, Rhonda Curry and husband Don of Ottawa, Jason Jeffries and wife Christina of Lawrence, Deane Pennington and husband Layne of Jasper, Missouri, and Karla Moore and husband John of Chillicothe, Missouri; sister, Kay Kinzler and husband Bud of Idaho; brother, Larry Jeffries of Colorado; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Following high school, Ron enlisted in the United States Navy serving aboard the USS Kearsarge Aircraft Carrier. He obtained the rank of Yeoman First Class. He worked with the United States Postal Service in Johnson County in the early 1970’s. Ron returned to government service and became a Navy recruiter in Kansas City, Missouri, retiring in the early 1990s. Ron enjoyed watching KU basketball and Kansas City Royals baseball. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
