Edward Joseph Platt, 83, of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Brookside Retirement Community. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rosary will be held at 6:30 P.M., Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, followed by a visitation for family and friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Emerald, Kansas. Edward was born January 22, 1936, in Franklin County, Kansas, the son of Lonnie Joseph and Mary Ann (Setter) Platt. He lived in Richmond, Kansas 60 years moving to Ottawa in 1997. Edward was united in marriage to Waunita Lutz September 1, 1958 in Westphalia. They later divorced. He married Mary Jane Jones April 12, 1997, in Scipio. They later divorced. Survivors include five children, Cathy Sue Cooper and husband Clarence of Paola, Theresa Ann Macy and husband Darrel of Ottawa, Michael Edward Platt of Gardner, Alan Joe Platt and wife Linda of Richmond, and John Anthony Platt of Paola; two siblings, Emery Lawrence Platt and Mary Ann Hermann both of Garnett; twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents; brother, Gene David Platt; and two grandsons, Kristopher R. Stockard and Matthew Dominic Platt. Edward was a farmer for thirty-five years. He worked in various construction jobs for over twenty years including Components of Garnett, Killough Construction of Ottawa for six years, Fogle Quarry of Ottawa for five years, Johnson County Aggregate for five years, and Deffenbaugh Industries of Shawnee before retiring. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus Council No. 3018 for more than forty-eight years; Franklin County National Farmers Organization president from 1958 to 1985; and the Richmond Lions Club.
