Edward J. Reed age 85, of Louisburg, KS, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013 at his home. Ed was born April 1, 1928, at Louisburg, KS, the son of Ralph B. and Laura Wolf Reed. He was united in marriage on October 11, 1953 to Myrtle Lee Koelsch at the First Presbyterian Church in Paola, Kansas. The family has lived in the Louisburg area since 1953. Edward attended the Spring Valley Grade School and graduated from Louisburg High School with the class of 1946. After graduation he began working for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company at Louisburg. He was soon called to serve his country with the United States Army, serving in the Korean War with the 45th Infantry Division. He served in Japan and Korea until October, 1952. Upon returning home from Korea, he resumed working at Louisburg Panhandle Station, and continued doing so for 37 " years. Edward loved the country, and after retiring, spent many happy days farming and raising cattle with his son. He enjoyed traveling and going to Branson, and liked to dance. He loved being with his family and friends and helping others. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Louisburg for more than 70 years and served as a Deacon for many years. He received his 50 year Masonic pin from Peace Lodge #243 in 2012. He was, also a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star; Abdallah Shrine of Kansas City, Kansas; and John P. Hand Post #250 of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Lee of 60 years, of the home; one son, Mark Edward Reed, Louisburg, KS, one brother, George Reed and sister in Law Betty, grandchildren, Megan and Daniel Reed and Tyler and Kristen Reed and several nieces and nephews.
