Edward Alan Slot, 63, of Louisburg , KS passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 6, 2011. He had been in ill health for several years. Ed was born October 16, 1947 at Beatrice, Nebraska. He was the only son of John and Velma (Winkle) Slot and the third of their five children. Ed graduated from York High School, York, Nebraska with the Class of 1966. Shortly after high school he enlisted in the United States Navy where he was ranked as an RD2 and received a National Defense Service Medal before being honorably discharged in 1970. He was united in marriage to Stella Lottes on August 24th, 1973 in York, NE. They became the parents of two daughters, Tracy and Amy. They relocated to Louisburg in 1975 where he was sent to manage the Scott-Hourigan Irrigation Company. He then worked for several years at Panhandle Eastern and Kansas Pipeline in Lenexa , KS before retiring. Ed was a member of the American Legion and Ruritan Club of Louisburg . He was a dedicated member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing the guitar in his younger days, liked woodworking, photography, yard work and was also an avid reader. Ed adored his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Ed was also known to be a very huge Nebraska Cornhusker football fan throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Stella of the home; two daughters and their spouses Tracy and Larry Lee of Franklin, Kansas and Amy and Brad Plackemeier of McPherson, Kansas; four sisters Eloise Wiebe of Portland, Oregon, Alice White of Bakersfield, California, Beth Dietz of Alma, Nebraska, and Catherine Petrie of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren Kelcey and Brody Lee and Brooks and Emelia Plackemeier; other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 11, 2011 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 606 South Elm Street Louisburg, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the church followed by rosary at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the St. Mary"s Cemetery Louisburg, KS, with Military Honors. Memorial contributions are to the Parkinson"s Association.
