Edna S. Cowdin

Edna S. Cowdin, age 94, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Monday, January 24, 2011. She was born on Sunday, May 28, 1916, in Cordova, Seward County, Nebraska, the daughter of Albert and Bertha (Hansen) Johnsen. She was a near lifelong resident of Ottawa, moving from Greeley, Colorado. She grew up in Cordova and Friend, Nebraska. Edna graduated from Friend High School, Friend, Nebraska, with the class of 1934. She was a homemaker. She attended First Presbyterian Church in Ottawa. Edna was deeply devoted to her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed word find puzzles. On Friday, December 28, 1951, Edna was united in marriage with Charles Richard “Bick” Cowdin in Fayetteville, Arkansas. They enjoyed fifty-nine years together. He survives of their home. She is also survived by; Son,LeRoy Detwiler and his wife, Ann, of Paola, Kansas ;Daughter,Linda (Detwiler) Showalter of Olathe, Kansas ;Daughter,Janis (Detwiler) Berry of Jefferson City, Missouri ;Sister,Virginia Ecklund and her husband, Dean, of Wellington, Kansas;Brother,Stanley Johnson of Mexico, Missouri Grandchildren (6)- Shannon Henry Todd Detwiler Ted Detwiler Shelley Carter Kelli Knecht Derek Showalter Gt.Grandchildren-Thirteen. She is preceded in death by: Parents,Albert and Bertha Johnsen Son,Jamie Detwiler;Infant Son,Lynn Detwiler;Sister,Elaine Meyer SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2011. IN STATE: Mrs. Cowdin will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Wednesday evening.
