Edna Butcher said goodbye to the love of her life and best friend, Don, on September 18, 2012, in Coffeyville, Kansas. Don and Edna were married for 64 years and had two daughters, Vickie and Joyce. Edna was surrounded by her loved ones when she went home to be with her Lord. Edna Rose (Vohs) Butcher was born on November 7, 1925, in Miami County, Kansas, to Jake and Velma (Kern) Vohs. Edna grew up in the Louisburg, Kansas, area and graduated from a one-room elementary school house and Louisburg Rural High School in 1943. Edna attended Central Business College in Kansas City, Missouri. She was employed by Mid-Central Fish Company in Kansas City, Missouri, as a secretary and later managed the typing department at the Avon Cosmetic Company in Kansas City, Missouri. Edna met Donald Butcher, the man she shared the rest of her life with, on a blind date. It didn"t take long before they fell in love. They married on June 19, 1948, at Edna"s parents" home in Louisburg. Their daughters were born into a home filled with laughter. Don loved to tease Edna until he heard her laugh. Don and Edna worked side by side to run the farm they owned. They both loved square dancing and often had their family and friends to the farm for fun and fellowship. Edna loved her girls and worked hard to care for them. She made many of their clothes and was an active part of their school and social lives. Edna desired to make lasting memories with her children, including teaching them to cook and sew, teaching them to ride a horse and work the farm, and taking them ice skating, in the moonlight, on their farm pond. In 1976, Don and Edna moved to Shawnee, Kansas, and began a new chapter in their life. Shortly after this move, they became grandparents, and their world began to revolve around the lives of their grandbabies. After Don retired from General Motors, they moved to Conway, Arkansas, and then moved to Coffeyville, Kansas. Edna loved doing crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble and Uno with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. When her great grandbabies arrived, Edna took care to make many memories with them as well. Edna was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Juanita Vohs. She is survived by her husband, Don Butcher; her two daughters- Vickie Carnine and husband, Ron, of Coffeyville, KS; and Joyce Prater and husband, Barry, of Maumelle, AR; her five grandchildren- Jennifer Gaines and husband, Jarrod, of Peabody, KS; Amy Johnson and husband, Ben, of Coffeyville, KS; Nicole Miller and husband, Shawn, of Sugar Land, TX; Chase Prater of Maumelle, AR; and Marshall Prater of Maumelle, AR; and her eight great grandchildren- Devon, Morgan, and Weston Gaines; Serenity and Bradyn Johnson; Seth and Macey Miller; and Autymn Prater; her brother, Earl Vohs of Louisburg, KS; her sisters-in-law- Mary Perkins and her husband Clarence of Lee Summit, MO, and Marcie Van Dyke of Kansas City, MO; her cousin that was more like a brother to her, Roger Kern of Louisburg, KS; and many other family members that played a large role in her life.
