Edna M. Frey

May 23, 1920 — November 29, 2012

Edna Mae Frey, 92, Paola, died November 29, 2012 at Moran Manor Nursing Home, Moran, KS. Edna Mae was born May 23, 1920 in Paola, to George Nelson and Lida Belle Sims Hoyle. She was the fifth of seven children. She attended schools in Paola and Lane, KS. She was united in marriage, April 16, 1939 to Arthur P. Gerhard Frey at Trinity Lutheran Church in Block. They became the parents of one daughter. Edna Mae first worked at Royal Cleaners in Paola, and then Sutherland's Food Center and Ben Franklin Store, where she retired in 1986. She enjoyed helping customers, and was sought out by shoppers who knew she could find just what they needed. Edna Mae also was a wonderful baker. She was known for her pies, breads and cakes, an art she learned from her German mother-in- law. She was most happy in the presence of her family and friends, Edna always had a reason to celebrate, no matter what the occasion. Edna Mae enjoyed music and dancing, as it was a part of her daily home life for many years, with her husband's gift of playing numerous instruments, recording and entertaining people. She was always on the go taking care of neighborhood elderly ladies and relatives, but her favorite pastime in later years, was time spent with her granddaughters, who she helped take care of after school, running to activities, and just having fun. Edna Mae touched many lives with her kindness, and her ability to make people laugh with her witty sense of humor. Everyone that knew her, always shares a story. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arthur; three sisters Gladys Hickman, Ruth Barrett, and Hazel Rentz; and one brother Loren Hoyle. She is survived by one sister Marjorie Rousello, of Gardner, KS; one brother Charles Hoyle, of Emporia, KS; one daughter Teresa Morrow and husband Chris, of Paola, KS; two granddaughters Mandy Miller Mundorff and her husband, Erik of Olathe, KS and Megan Barton, and her husband Mitch of Olathe, KS and her great-grandson Abram Barton. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation. To leave a special condolence message please click the Share Memories button.
