March 15, 1916 — September 18, 2003

Edna Hazel Casebolt was born March 15, 1916, near Wilmot, Kansas, to Ora Calvin and Livona Gertrude (Jones) Sturm. Edna was the oldest of four children, two sisters, Doris Stevenson, of Newton, Kansas, Faye Belillo, of Hesston, Kansas, and one brother, Lee Sturm, who is deceased. Edna lived in Winfield, Kansas, moving to Mason City, Iowa, in 1959, and Ottawa, Kansas, in 1963. She was currently a resident of Park Place Care Center in Raytown, Missouri, until her death Thursday, September 18, 2003, at the age of eighty-seven years. She graduated from the eighth grade with honors. However, she was needed at home to help care for her baby brother and did not attend high school. Several years later, she earned her General Equivalency Degree and also completed a nutrition course. She worked at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield, Kansas, in the kitchen for several years. On a blind date, Edna met Loren Wayne Casebolt. They courted for twenty-one months and were married on September 13, 1937, at the Cowley County Courthouse. Loren preceded Edna in death on December 5, 2001. Three children were born to this couple, two daughters, Leota Fay Evans, of Monticello, Georgia, Sharon Kay Godfrey, of Raytown, Missouri, and son, Max Dean Casebolt, of Sevierville, Tennessee. The also have five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. After all of her children were enrolled in school, Edna worked at William Newton Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aid for several years. In 1959, she and her family moved to Mason City, Iowa, where she worked as a nurse's aid at Park Hospital. In August of 1963, they moved to Ottawa. She worked at Cedar House Nursing Home for twenty years. For several years, she was in charge of the kitchen, which included menu planning and meal preparation. Edna was an active member of First Christian Church in Ottawa, where she enjoyed attending Christian Women's Fellowship and an evening group. She and Loren also enjoyed the Jolly Sixties Club. Every year, Edna had a big garden, canning and freezing lots of vegetables, and she made the 'best jelly in the world'. She enjoyed her family greatly and was always there if anyone needed her.
