Edna Bernice Kreusch was born May 17, 1912, at Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas. She was the daughter of Johnnie and Elizabeth (Hopkins) Higgins. Edna grew up in the Greenwood Community, living on a farm in that area until moving to Ottawa with her husband in 1972, where she made her home until her death Friday, April 26, 2002, at the age of eighty-nine years. She attended rural schools in the Greenwood area. Edna worked eleven years as a seamstress for Mode O'Day, twenty years for H. D. Lee, and eight years as a cook at the L & L Restaurant, all of Ottawa, retiring in 1977. Edna was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church and the International Garment Workers of America Union, now known as United Food and Commercial Workers Textile and Garment Council. An expert seamstress, Edna began making pillows, lap robes, and quilts, before her retirement. She enjoyed traveling and liked to watch T.V. Her favorites were game shows and professional baseball and wrestling. Edna was a kind, loving mother and grandmother, who greatly enjoyed having her family near. On February 17, 1930, Edna was united in marriage with Frank Kreusch at Waverly, Kansas. He preceded her in death March 21, 1978. Also, preceding her in death are her parents; son, Raymond Kreusch; brother, Jess Higgins; and, sister, Mae Lilly. She is survived by her son, Jack Kreusch and his wife, Louise, of Ottawa; daughter, Kathryn Sheler ad her husband, Eldon, of Ottawa; three brothers, Ralph Higgins and his wife, Mae, of Commerce City, Colorado, Olen Higgins and his wife, Mandy, of Wichita, Don Higgins and his wife, Sharon, of Princeton; two sisters, Myrtle Johnston of Killeen, Texas, Frances Smith and her husband, Vernon, of McPherson; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and, nine great-great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2002, at Greenwood Cemetery. OFFICIANT: Pastor Bob Miller. IN STATE: Mrs. Kreusch will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Dengel & Son Mortuary until service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 6 to 7:00 Sunday evening.
