Edith Martin went to meet her Lord and Savior on May 24th, 2021, at the Redwood of Carmel Care Facility in Independence, Missouri after a battle with cancer. She would have been 89 years of age on July 6th. Private family services will be held at a later date. Edith was born in Adair County, Iowa on July 6th, 1932. She was the daughter and first-born child of Ralph and Ruth (Ridler) Price. She grew up in the rural area of Adair County. She attended the first eight years of school at country schools. She attended Greenfield High School in Greenfield, Iowa and graduated in 1950. Edith and Ken Berry were married in 1950. From this union three children were born. Ken, Charles (Chuck) and Ruth Ellen. There were seven grandchildren born, Janet, Stacey, Kenny, Rachelle, Harold Leroy, Christopher, and Kimberly. Numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren to follow. Edith was proud and loved them all dearly. In 1985 Edith married Mel Martin and with this marriage she had stepchildren and grandchildren who she loved very much. Edith was preceded in death by husband Mel, her parents, Ralph and Ruth Price, sister Helen Ruth, brother Harold Price, son Chuck, grandson Harold Leroy Hinson, great granddaughter, Shelia Berry, son in-law Reggie Roe. Edith is survived by her children, Ken (Terri) Berry and Ruth Ellen, Cheryl Morrison (Chuck’s wife) grandchildren, Janet, Stacey, Kenny, Rachelle, Christopher and Kimberly. Brother Roy (Linda) Price, sisters Mary (Duane) Osterloo, Barbara (Lou) Lehmer, and Sharon (Darrel) Henry. Also, she is survived by great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and step children. Over the years Edith worked many jobs such as nurses aid, LPN, waitress, clerical, bookkeeper, helping her husband, Mel, with his business in Ottawa and the last job she had before she retired was a greeter at Walmart in Ottawa. There were years where she was a single parent and would work a second job. She did not back away from anything. Edith enjoyed and lived life to the fullest. She had a strong Christian faith. She loved music, KU basketball, dancing, motorcycle riding when she was younger, and traveling. Life had taken her to live in different states over the years. Edith was a loving person and cared very much for her family and friends. She loved family gatherings and loved to sit and reminisce. Many times she helped with care of her parents and grandparents. She was a great “big” sister. Edith was loved and she will be missed. Contributions for funeral expenses would be greatly appreciated. Checks should be made payable to Ruth Roe.
