Edith "Edie" Derousseau

Edith “Edie” Derousseau, 65, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the University of Kansas Health System. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 20th at the church. Inurnment Highland Cemetery. Edie was born September 27, 1952, at St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of David and Hazel “Jackie” (Harvey) Wingert. She spent her early years in Pittsburg and Wichita, Kansas, before finally making her home in Ottawa in 1978. She graduated from Wichita West High School with the class of 1971 and attended Pittsburg State University and Wichita State University. Edie was united in marriage to Adrian Derousseau November 3, 1973, at Wichita. They shared more than 44 years of love, unexpected laughter, and countless memories. Edie’s family was her world. She was a fierce defender of her loved ones and an absolute rock to her family and close friends. Edie was a bright ray of sunshine to all that knew her – she never knew a stranger. Cooking and baking were her specialty. She particularly enjoyed sharing her creations with others. Her quick wit and sense of humor brought smiles to so many. Edie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her husband, Adrian of the home; two children, Michaela Nutt and husband Bob of Ottawa and Andrew Derousseau and wife Briane of Rogers, Arkansas; three siblings, David Wingert and wife Lisa of Topeka, Sue Jackson and husband Mike of Rogers, and Mary Smith and husband Tony of Hiwasse, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Baylee, Beau, Brenner, Emory and Anna Claire; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Jackie Wingert; and brother, Eddie Wingert. She attended the First United Methodist Church. The family suggests memorial contributions to the UMW (United Methodist Women) or Franklin County 4-H Development Fund c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
