Eddie Garcia was born on Monday, July 18, 1921, in Richland, Kansas. He was the son of Jesus and Jesus (Torres) Garcia. Eddie moved from Richland to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, in 1937, where he made his home until his death on Tuesday, December 26, 2006, at the age of eighty-five years. He began working for Missouri Pacific Railroad as a lineman in the mid 1940's, retiring in 1982. Eddie served in the United States Army from October 1942 to December of 1945, as a rifle marksman, during World War II, attaining the rank of Tech. 5. His tour of duty included the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, and the Victory Ribbon. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa. Eddie enjoyed the outdoors and liked to go fishing. He also had fun going to the boats and gambling. His greatest enjoyment, however, came from spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play ball. Due to his love for kids, he was also a great coach. On September 24, 1949, Eddie was united in marriage with Amelia Garcia in Ottawa, Kansas. She preceded him in death on October 10, 2005. He is also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Henry Garcia, Cecil Garcia; two sisters, Senida Garcia, Frances Aguirre; and great-granddaughter, Alexis Peyton Saubers. Eddie is survived by his son, Juan Garcia of Ottawa; daughter, Anna Robertson of Ottawa; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Kingcannon, Crystal Robertson, Michelle Robertson, Angela Jones, Errick Johnson, Jesse Edward Garcia, Juan Jesus Garcia, Joseph Jesus Garcia; and seven great-grandchildren, Darrian Kingcannon, Mirshea Kingcannon, Brayden Alan Davis, Chaiya Margaret Doerhoffer, Carsten Doerhoffer, Zachary Johnson, and Abby Deanna Garcia. SERVICES: A Funeral Mass will be held from Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2006. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Fr. Tod Ziegler. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Garcia at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday. A Rosary will be said at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, followed by a family visitation. CEMETERY: Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas, with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901 of Ottawa.
