Earla R. Schultz

Earla Rene Schultz, 60, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016, at the Research Medical Center. Celebration of life will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends following the service. Private inurnment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Earla was born Monday, August 22, 1955, in Chetopa, Kansas, the daughter of Earl and Ruby (Moses) Schultz. She was raised in Chetopa, moving to Olathe and Gardner. In 1966, she moved to Ottawa, where she made her home until her death. She graduated from Chetopa High School with the class of 1973. Survivors include her husband, Michael R. Hammar of Wellsville; six children, Ruby Powell and husband Marcus, Amy Singleterry, Robert Welborn and wife Kristie, Charity Schultz, Brandi Singleterry, and John Hammar all of Ottawa; three siblings, Joe Schultz of Girard, Sue Reber and husband Bill of Olathe, and Larry Schultz and wife Michele of North Carolina; twenty-five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and son-in-law, Christopher Lavender of Kansas City, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mendi Lavender; parents; and four siblings, Linda Schultz, Andrea Peacock, Victor Schultz, and Daniel Schultz. Earla was a devoted homemaker and also worked at area nursing homes. She attended the Agape Christian Center, Ottawa. She enjoyed playing Bingo, going to the casino, reading the Bible, nature, and fishing. She loved her pug dogs, her favorite was China.
