Earl Vinton "Andy" Anderson, Jr., 92, passed away unexpectedly February 5, 2013. Andy, the son of Earl and Pearl Hiner Anderson was born May 27, 1920 in Remington, Oklahoma. As a small child the family moved to El Dorado, Kansas where he attended elementary school and high school. In 1937, he joined the U.S. Navy and served 4 years. He served 1 year and 2 months in the U.S. Army leaving there to go to the Coast Guard. He was honorably discharged from all three services. On August 9, 1941 he was married to Virginia Snook in El Dorado. To this union one daughter Brenda Louise was born. This marriage ended in divorce. He worked for Williams Oil Company for 30 years, retiring in 1976. He then worked as a rural mail carrier in Paola for 11 years retiring in December 1986. Andy also worked at Price Chopper and Apple Market in Paola for about 8 years. On December 3, 1986 he was married to Marge O"Brien at the home of Marge"s daughter in Hutchinson, Kansas. Andy loved to hunt and travel. He and Marge traveled the U.S. from north to south and coast to coast, and also traveled in Canada and Old Mexico. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of Retired Rural Letter Carriers, American Legion, and Pearl Street Baptist Church of Paola. He also helped teach the adult Sunday school. He was a member of the Gideon"s, belonging to the Ottawa Camp. He dearly loved this work. He would get all teary-eyed when he went to the schools to give out bibles to the 5th grade students and looked forward to the speaking engagements at the different churches. He was Living Memorial Bible Chairman of the organization for some time. He worked at this until his health prevented him from doing so. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, an infant sister, and three brothers. He is survived by his wife of the home, brother Bill Anderson of Broken Arrow, OK, daughter Brenda Hallouer of Manhattan, KS, step-daughter Margie (Don) Moor of Bella Vista, AR, 2 grandsons, 1 step-granddaughter, 1 step-grandson, 6 great step-grandchildren, 4 great-great step-grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews. Andy also has what he called "My Step-Grandchildren". At birth he chose Rayleigh Towler and Annabella Black to be his kids. He also had a special friend from the police force, Don Poore. Mr. Poore was faithful in visiting Andy and taking him out to dinner, he was special to Andy. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home.
