Duane R. Dickinson, age 83, of Overbrook, formerly of Pomona, Kansas, passed away with family by his side Sunday, August 16, 2020. Duane donated his body to KU Med for research. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Duane was born October 28, 1936, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Martin S. and Norma B. (Reida) Dickinson. He lived on the family farm in rural Pomona from 1961 to 2012 when he moved to Overbrook. He graduated from Williamsburg High School with the class of 1954. Duane was united in marriage to Delores P. McClelland November 3, 1955, in Williamsburg, Kansas. He was a lifelong farmer also working at Farmland Industries in Lawrence in the Industrial Maintenance Department for 29 years, retiring in March 1999. Duane was a charter member of Power of the Past Antique Tractor Club and had many antique tractors and other antique farm machinery. He had a 1908 wooden threshing machine that he restored and is used at the Power of the Past show every year. His grandson Ryan and nephew Rex share his passion for antique machinery. Duane built the two trams used during the show to transport people around the area. Duane liked feeding the birds and watching many wild species, he loved dogs and adopted many from the shelter. He was a good man who would help anyone. Above all, Duane loved his family and grandchildren and the time they spent together. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Douglas Dickinson, and sister, Anita Kennedy. Survivors include his wife Delores of the home, two daughters, Susan Dickinson (Curt Miller) of Overbrook, and Yolanda Dickinson (Greg Coker) also of Overbrook; daughter-in-law, Wendy Dickinson (Rick Feuerborn) of Ottawa; sister, Mitzie (Richard) Neal of Williamsburg; two grandchildren, Ryan (Holly) Dickinson of Garnett, and Amy Dickinson of Ottawa; and great grandson, Tyden Dickinson of Garnett. The family suggests memorial contributions to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter or B&C Equine Rescue c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
