Duaine Clifford Else was born July 31, 1937, at Kackley, Kansas. He was the son of Wendell R. Else. Duaine lived in the Ottawa, Kansas, area twenty-one years following his military service. He also lived in Russell and Hesston, Kansas, and Anderson, Missouri, until his death Thursday, September 5, 2002, at the age of sixty-five years. He earned his high school diploma while serving in the military. In 1954, Duaine enlisted in the United States Army, retiring in 1977. After his service years, he was employed by Quaker Oats, retiring in 1995. Duaine served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1977, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. While serving with Btry C 1/67th ADA, he worked as a Wheel Vehicle Mechanic and a Track Vehicle Mechanic. His tour of duty included Vietnam, Germany, and Italy. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Alfred Clarke Memorial Post #852, of Lawrence, Kansas. Duaine loved spending time with his family. His second love was for his canine friend, Peachy, who went everywhere with Duaine. He was a hard worker, which he enjoyed. He also enjoyed the outdoors and traveling in his R.V. to Wilson Lake in Harvey County Park West. Duaine is survived by his stepmother, Doris Marshall of Pineville, Missouri; foster mother, Arla Patton of Hugoton, Kansas; four brothers, LeRoy Haehn of Granbury, Texas, Dennis Else of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Bob Else of Eidson, Tennessee, Dickie Haehn of Bogata, Columbia; five sisters, Annita L. Weber of Hesston, Kansas, Zelda Kraber of Hugoton, Kansas, Kaye Exler of San Antonio, Texas, Sheryl Else-Parks of Anderson, Missouri, Dodie Ortega of Eudora, Kansas; and, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Wendell R. Else; foster father, Curtis Haehn; daughter, RaVonda Lee Else; sister, Barbara Pugh; and, five brothers, Bud Haehn, Claude Haehn, Norman Else, Danny Else, and Robert Else. SERVICES: Family and friends will meet at Highland Cemetery for military graveside services 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2002. OFFICIANT: Pastor Jon Boyd.
