Dr. Hala Aidi Amawi, age 79, of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Saint
Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, February 9, 2024, at Dengel & Son Mortuary – Louisburg
Chapel, 1 Aquatic Drive, Louisburg, Kansas 66053. A private burial for the immediate family will take place at the Louisburg Cemetery.
Hala was born on September 5, 1944, in Damascus, Syria. She was the daughter of Abdul Karim and Moukaram
(Madwar) Aidi.
Hala spent the first 27 years of her life and went to Medical School in Damascus, Syria. She married Dr.
Mohammad Amawi in 1971. In that same year, Hala and Mohammad moved to New Britain, Connecticut and became US Citizens. Together they had two daughters, Lana and Deana.
Hala and her family moved to Dodge City, Kansas in 1976, and resided there until they moved to Louisburg,
Kansas in the summer of 2016.
She was very accomplished woman; she received her Doctor of Medicine degree and later became a college professor.
Hala taught for 30 years at Dodge City Community College. Her instruction included anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
Hala enjoyed reading, cooking, and spending time with her family. She loved her husband, daughters, and
grandchildren dearly. Hala’s three grandchildren, Adam, Aneisa, and Ava held a special place in her heart. Tata and Sitto, grandmother in Arabic, were the endearing names used by her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them and attending activities
they were involved in.
Hala is preceded in death by her parents, Abdul Karim and Moukaram Aidi; and one sibling, Moutaz Aidi.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Dr. Mohammad Amawi; two daughters, Lana Amawi, and Deana Werkowitch;
sister Jouhaina Dalati; brother, Shawkat Aidi; three grandchildren, Adam, Aneisa, and Ava; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
