Heavens gates opened for the homecoming of Dr. Afton Bud Oglesby, Senior Pastor of Community Revival Center Church, on Resurrection Sunday, April 5, 2015, at the age of 86, at his home in Ottawa, Kansas, with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the Community Revival Center Church, 2749 Montana Road, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 10, at the church. Burial will take place at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, immediately following the service. Afton was born Sunday, August, 5, 1928, in Bobtown, Polk County, Missouri. He was the son of Alva and Athal (Hawkins) Oglesby. He attended school in Liberty, Missouri. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and foreman, for May Ransom & Sheetz Construction in Topeka, for twenty years. While working in Liberal, Kansas, he met Marlene Lillian Schneider, the love of his life, and later they were united in marriage March 20, 1954, in Great Bend, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his three sons, Dave Oglesby and wife, Linda of Ottawa, Daryl Oglesby and wife, Carol of Gardner, and Dan Oglesby and wife, Roxie of Ottawa; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Barbara Oglesby of LeCompton; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a multitude of people who adopted him as their dad and grandpa. He was preceded in death by his parents; eldest son, Michael Afton Oglesby; brother, Jack Oglesby; and two sisters, Jewell Parr and Jean Chirillo-Burke. Afton and Marlene accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in 1961. They then moved to Lipscomb, Texas, in 1963, to pastor Lipscomb Union Church. In 1964, God spoke to Afton to move to Ottawa to build a church. They founded, directed and served as senior pastors of Community Revival Center Church for the last fifty years. He furthered his education receiving his Bachelors of Bible Theology in 1986, Masters of Bible Theology in 1987, and his Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Florida International Seminary in 1996. He was a member of the Ottawa Ministerial Alliance, House of Prayer Ministries, Anchor Bay Evangelistic Association, board member of the Independent Assemblies Fellowship and Frontline Ministries. He founded and was president of H.E.L.P.S. Ministries Fellowship International. He was very active in taking missionary trips to France and Mexico. He helped build the church in Allende, Mexico, and started a house church in Council Grove, Kansas, where he ministered weekly for the past seventeen years. In the1970’s, he was involved in ministerial broadcasts on KOFO Radio. In 1979, he started the first Christian school in Franklin County, and during the last three years was Skyping to Walk on Word Ministries Bible School in the Philippines. He was instrumental in helping Hands of Glory begin their ministry and later formed the Living Testaments hand signing group. He also formed the singing groups, Revival Sounds Choir and Kings Daughters Quartet. He wrote and directed 2 soul winning plays, An Interview from Hell and The Gates of Hell Shall Not Prevail. He recorded a southern gospel C.D. entitled God is Faithful and wrote his own autobiography Can You Believe This. Senior Pastor loved God, family, his church and congregation.
