Douglas Wayne Toad Watts was born on Tuesday, September 12, 1961, in Topeka, Kansas. He was the son of Floyd Elton “John” and Patty Ann (O’Connor) Watts. Except for living in Glen Rose, Texas from 1984 to 1986, Toad was a near lifelong resident of Franklin County, Kansas, until his death on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at the age of forty-eight years. Toad attended Appanoose Grade School and Pomona High School with the class of 1979. He was a drywall hanger and finisher for Larry and Gary Kindle fifteen years; worked at Skyhook Corporation of Ottawa; Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant in Glen Rose, Texas; and was manager for Fraternal Order of Eagles of Ottawa for several years. He was also a bartender for the Other Place and Bishop’s Brew, both of Ottawa, and owned and operated the bar, Talk of the Town in Wellsville, until retirement in 2006 due to health reasons. He was a former member of Aerie Lodge #2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Ottawa. Toad was a very kind, caring, and loving person. He never had a harsh word for anyone. He was blessed with lots of friends and was very close to his family. Toad was united in marriage with Sherry Hughes. To that union, one child, Kevin, was born. They were later divorced. He was united in marriage with Carolyn Hendrickson. They were later divorced. He is survived by his parents, Floyd Elton “John” and Patty Ann Watts of Ottawa, Kansas; brother, Raymond Watts of Ottawa, Kansas; niece, Erica Herzog of Ottawa, Kansas; nephew, Ryan Watts of Pomona, Kansas; two great nephews; one great niece; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his son, Kevin Watts, on December 19, 2001; paternal grandparents, Samp and Arrietta Watts; and maternal grandparents, Charlie and Clara O’Connor. Graveside Memorial Services will be held at Wellsville Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2010. Family will meet with friends at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa from 7:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening. Doug was cremated. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Midland Hospice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
