Dorothy Naddelle (Richardson) Nichols, age 80, of Ottawa, Kan., died Monday, April 19, 2004, at Golden Palms Retirement & Health Center in Harlingen, Texas . She was the daughter of the late Elmer Richardson and the late Bulah (Weien) Richardson. Dorothy was a lifelong Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas resident. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1941. She was a lifelong homemaker. From January 1992 to 1995, she was Office Administrator of Ottawa Community Arts Council. From 1981 to 1986, she served as State Representative for the 14th District, Franklin County (now 12th District), State of Kansas, serving on the Labor and Industry Committee six years, Vice-Chair-person two years, local Government Committee six years, Commercial and Financial Institution Committee four years, and Public Health and Welfare Committee two years. From 1963 to 1984, Dorothy and her husband owned and operated Lee's Downtowner Cafe in Ottawa. In the early 1960's, she worked as bookkeeper for Weideman Tire and Battery in Ottawa and drove a bus (city route) for Ainsworth Bus Service. From 1946 to 1963, she was a farm and housewife. Previously, she was clothing store manager from 1944 to 1946 for Eddie's Casual Shop in Ottawa and, 1942 to 1944, was a union secretary, machine operator and inspector for American Can Company of Monterey, California. She served on interim committees on: Insurance, and Workman's Compensation Task Force Chair-person (1987); Economic Development (1986); Task Force on Educational Planning for Vocational, Technical, and Community Colleges; Ottawa City Commission (1977-1981), Mayor (1978-1979); Task Force studying Retail Wheeling; National League of Municipalities (4 years), Energy and Natural Resources Commission (2 years); greater Ottawa Chamber of Commerce (since early 1970's), Board Member, President (1976-1977), Communication and Image Committee Chair-person, Downtown Development; Kansas Public Employee-Employer Relations Board (1987-1995) which was Governor appointed and Senate approved.
