Dorothy Marie Cooper, 85, of Richmond, Kansas, died Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Vintage Park in Ottawa, Kansas. She was born on August 3, 1928 in Richmond, Kansas, the daughter of Clifford and Odessa (Dial) Carey. Funeral Services will be held at Richmond United Methodist Church, 10:00 A.M., January 11, 2014. Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Cooper at Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 P.M. Friday to the service hour where family will meet with friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. Friday. Interment Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas. Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Richmond, until moving to Ottawa Vintage Park five years ago. She graduated from Richmond High School with the class of 1946. On Sunday, August 24, 1947, Dorothy was united in marriage with Robert “Bob” Cooper in Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 29, 2012. Survivors include three daughters, Janice Cooper-Rodriguez of Ottawa, Kansas, Diane Cooper-Burnett and husband Bob of LaCygne, Kansas and Donna Cooper-Brannan and husband David of Ottawa, Kansas; two sons, Gary Cooper and wife Carol of Osawatomie, Kansas and Russell Cooper and wife Louise of Louisburg, Kansas; brother, Tom Carey of Ottawa, Kansas; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; infant son, Lawrence Dean Cooper; sister, Mildred Carey; and her parents. Dorothy worked for a short time at Mode-O-Day and Bennett’s Creamery prior to moving to the family farm where she was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was also an Avon sales representative for many years. Dorothy was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women where she held various offices; lifetime member of the Richmond Community Museum; Richmond Jr’s Extension Homemakers Unit; Star Community Club; a member of Rainbow 4-H Club and foods leader for Berea Boosters 4-H Club and foods Superintendent at Richmond Fair for many years.
