Dorothy Marie Beesley

Dorothy Marie Beesley was born on Wednesday, February 23, 1921, in Berryton, Kansas. She was the daughter of Frank Joseph and Annie Pearl (Lue) Stansbury. A lifelong Kansas resident, Dorothy lived with her aunt, Minnie Kungle, in Williamsburg, Carbondale and Topeka and with her parents southwest of Williamsburg. After her marriage, she and Jim lived in Topeka, the Richter community, and Pomona. She moved to Ottawa in October of 2006, where she made her home until her death on Friday, September 14, 2007, at the age of eighty-six years. Dorothy attended schools in Williamsburg and Carbondale, graduating from Williamsburg High School with the class of 1939. She worked a total of forty-six years in Williamsburg, Topeka and Ottawa. In August of 1983, she retired from the Ottawa Times, where she had worked as a linotype operator and proofreader. Dorothy was a former member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church and Junior Judgers 4-H Club leader. She was currently a member of Richter United Methodist Church, Richter United Methodist Women, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and Harmony Homes HDU. Dorothy was a lovely lady, very kind and caring. She enjoyed the great outdoors, traveling, camping and visiting with other campers. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading. On August 17, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage with James K. Beesley in Lawrence, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 25, 1988. She is also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Dr. Jim Beesley, Mike Beesley; sister, Susie McClelland; five brothers, George, Thomas, Lue, Frank, and Leslie Stansbury; and companion, Ronnie Barlow. Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jo Anne and Ronnie Willford of Belle Plaine, Kansas; grandson, James Carl 'J.C.' Beesley of Nevada; sister, Ruth Carlson of Ottawa; brother, Bob Stansbury of Eufaula, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Kathie Beesley of Washington; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held from Woodlawn Cemetery 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 19, 2007. IN STATE: Mrs. Beesley will lie in state after 5:00 p.m. Monday at Dengel & Son Mortuary to service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7 to 8 Tuesday evening.
