Dorothy M. Wheaton, 100, of Ottawa, passed away at her home Wednesday, August 1, 2018, with family by her side. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 6th, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family and friends will meet immediately following the service. Dorothy was born February 21, 1918, in Independence, Missouri, the daughter of Fredrick and Pearl (Burkhardt) Browning. She lived in Independence, Missouri until 1968 then several years in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Libya, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. In 1984, Dorothy moved to Ottawa with her husband after his retirement. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri, with the class of 1936. Dorothy was united in marriage to Edward W. Wheaton January 8, 1939 in Independence. They enjoyed 78 years of marriage before his death on December 22, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick and Pearl Browning and her brothers, Robert Browning and Earl Browning. Survivors include three children, Jacque Kramer of Ottawa, Walter Wheaton and wife Darlene of Cheyenne, Wyoming and John Wheaton and wife Billie Kaye of Fromberg, Montana; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy was a devoted lifelong homemaker. Their home was the central location for the entire family to gather and enjoy time together playing yard games, parlor games, watching birds, exploring new recipes, sharing exotic food and all aspects of a full life. She enjoyed traveling, playing Bridge and was an excellent cook. The family suggests memorial contributions to Midland Care c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
