Dorothy L. Lawson was born November 14, 1917, at Hillsboro, Kansas. She was the daughter of Gus and Minnie (Seibel) Schroeder. She has been an Ottawa resident since 1938, moving from Hillsboro, until her death at the age of eighty-five years. Dorothy attended Hillsboro School and took evening classes to earn her high school diploma. She worked on an assembly line at King Radio in Ottawa for sixteen years, retiring in 1989. Before working at King Radio, she worked four years at Sunflower Ordinance Plant in DeSoto and four to five years at the Franklin County Day Care Center. In the early 1940's she was a seamstress in Hollywood, California, for Hedda Hopper. Dorothy loved music. She always enjoyed playing her slide guitar and performing with her mother at barn dances. She was a very talented seamstress who enjoyed making crafts and clothes. She was also known in her family for her shopping. Holidays with her family were always special to her. She liked to have her family together when she could. Her parents and a brother, Otto R. Schroeder, precede her in death. She is survived by her son, Jimmie Alan Lawson of Lawrence; three daughters, Julianne Marie Barrick of Brownwood, Texas, Carole (Lawson) Bays of Ottawa, and Patricia Ann Crump of Pomona; one brother, Herbert Schroeder of Campbell, California; eight grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2003. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. William Weber. IN STATE: Mrs. Lawson will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 4:00 p.m. Saturday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 6 to 7:00 Sunday evening.
