Dorothy Louise Rice

RESIDENCE HISTORY: Dorothy lived in Ottawa from 1981 until moving to Howard, Kansas in 2002. She grew up in Iola,Kansas, moving to Wichita, Kansas in 1948, where she resided until 1961. From 1961 to 1974, she lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, returning to Wichita in 1974, prior to her move to Ottawa in 1981. EDUCATION: Dorothy attended Iola High School, earning her G.E.D. later in life. OCCUPATION & BUSINESS: In the late 1930`s and early 1940`s, she was a seamstress in Iola. In the 1950`s and early 1960`s, she was a self-employed beautician. MEMBERSHIPS: She was a member of the Ottawa Sewing Club and enjoyed visiting the Ottawa Senior Center. MARRIAGE: On April 10, 1937, Dorothy was united in marriage with J. B. Rice in Yates Center, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 31, 1994. They celebrated fifty-seven years of marriage. SERVICES: Family and friends will meet at Highland Cemetery in Iola at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2005, and commence graveside services at 2:00 p.m. IN STATE: Mrs. Rice will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.
