Dorothy Ilene Hay, 99, died of cancer, Sept. 13, 2008, in her home near Paola, Ks. She was born June 8, 1909, in Pomona, Ks., the eldest daughter of Ira and Nellie Reed. Dorothy grew up near Pomona and Greenwood, Ks. and graduated form Pomona High School in 1927. She married Clifford Farris, June 8, 1927, and much later, Melvin Hay, on December 19, 1954. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald Farris, husbands, Clifford Farris and Melvin Hay, two sisters and a granddaughter. Dorothy is survived by four children, Dolores and Dale Williamson, Topeka, Ks., Betty Jean and Keith Page, Lamar, Mo., Richard and Patty Farris, Alto, NM., and Gary Farris, Paola, Ks. Two brothers, Ray and Roy Reed, Pomona, Ks., and 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy worked for a few year at Mode-O-Day in Ottawa and in Osawatomie and as an Avon representative in Paola for over 35 years. She enjoyed her family, early morning walks, living in the country and sewing. The last few weeks of her life she was tenderly cared for by her nurse, Cathy Brown and Midland Hospice. Services for Dorothy will be Tues., Sept. 23, 2008, at 1:00 PM, at the Greenwood Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Greenwood Baptist Church, 1104 Labette Rd., Pomona, Ks. 66076 or Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Ks. 66606.
