Dorothy Elaine Challacomb

Dorothy Elaine Challacomb, age 78 of Louisburg, KS passed away May 21, 2019 at her home. She was born April 16, 1941 in Boston, Massachusetts to Mildred and Myer Leventhal. She married her husband of 57 years, Floyd Challacomb on October 2nd, 1960 in Las Vegas, NV. Dorothy was a homemaker, business woman and in "retirement", a university graduate. Dorothy and Floyd owned a successful plumbing company in Fullerton, CA for 36 years. Dorothy performed the accounting tasks, ran the retail store and answered the phones. When their business began to wind down, at the age of 52, Dorothy committed to earning a college degree. In 1997, she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology and Gerontology from Cal State University Fullerton. After graduation, she worked in the field of Stroke Rehabilitation by teaching Balance and Mobility Therapy. She was passionate about her students and they loved her. Dorothy loved to garden. Her rose garden at her home in Fullerton was her passion. She and Floyd worked countless hours together in her "labor of love". She loved to drive fast and when she became an "empty nester", she decided to buy a Mustang GT. It is a wonder how she didn't get more speeding tickets. Her home in Fullerton was always busy. Every holiday, birthday party and special event took place there with big meals, lots of games and plenty of laughter. When needed, her home was always open to family to live there as long as they needed. She was devoted to her husband Floyd and all of her family. There was rarely a day where she was not with her children and grandchildren. She was an amazing example of a Godly woman who was strong, patient and kind. In 2006, her and Floyd followed her daughter to Louisburg, KS where she enjoyed retirement. She cherished her group of close friends from Red Hatters, quilting and the Senior Center. Survivors include daughter, Sheri Challacomb Gurske and husband, Kent, Louisburg, KS; sons, Steven Challacomb and wife, Shawna, CA; Robert, CA; seven grandchildren, Hannah and Sara Gurske, Jonathan, Adam and Katie Challacomb and Destiny and Trinity McKee. The Visitation for Dorothy will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Louisburg United Methodist Church 249 N. Metcalf Louisburg, KS. Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church. Lunch will be provided after services.
