Dorothy E. Fredricks

Dorothy E. Fredricks, 91, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Ottawa Retirement Village. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, March 14, 2016, at the First Assembly of God in Ottawa. Family will meet with friends at 1:00 P.M. prior to the service at the church. Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Fredricks from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery in Franklin County. Dorothy was born Sunday, January 11, 1925, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Ulysses and Elsie (Bown) Mitchell. She was a lifelong resident of Franklin County, Kansas. She attended schools in Pomona, Kansas. Dorothy was united in marriage with James M. Fredricks March 12, 1947, in Olathe, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ulysses and Elsie Mitchell; son, Dennis Fredricks; brothers, Robert Mitchell and Lee Mitchell; and sister, Letha Walburn. She is survived by her son, Gary Fredricks and wife Marie of Fountain Hills, Arizona; daughter, Connie Jacobs of Ottawa, Kansas; brother, Jerry Mitchell of Missouri; two grandsons, Scott Fredricks and Craig Fredricks, both of Phoenix, Arizona; two granddaughters, Suzanne Vargo of Gilbert, Arizona and Amber Fredricks of Gardner, Kansas; six great grandchildren, Vaughn Fredricks, Hailey Fredricks, Chayse Vargo, Avery Vargo, Sage Vargo, and Remi Fredricks; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was the bookkeeper for her husband’s business, the Ottawa Tin Shop; worked two years at Litwin’s; eighteen years for H D Lee and at the Sunflower Plaza Nutrition Center, all in Ottawa. She was a member of First Assembly of God and Warren Black Post 60 American Legion Auxiliary, both in Ottawa.
