Dorothy A. Cook, 78, of Ottawa, Kansas died Monday, June 17, 2013. Funeral Services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 21, 2013. Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Cook at Dengel & Son Mortuary after 2:00 P.M. Thursday, to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa Dorothy was born on Thursday, February 7, 1935 in Norfolk, Nebraska. She was the daughter of William August and Julia Olephine (Tisthammer) Petersen. Dorothy lived in Albion, Omaha, Genoa and Norfolk in Nebraska; Topeka, Emporia and Scandia in Kansas before moving to Ottawa. She went to grade school at District 2, Boone County and Albion and graduated high school with the class of 1952, both in Albion, Nebraska. On August 22, 1954 Dorothy was united in marriage with Dewey S. Cook at Zion Lutheran Church, Albion, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on February 23, 2008. Survivors include her four children, daughter, Julia Mae Cook of Ottawa, son, Dewey S. Cook, Jr. of Ottawa, daughter, Delilah Rae James and husband Kevin of Ottawa, and daughter, Arline Fae Kindle and husband Gary of Eudora; nine grandchildren, Natalie Melton and husband Eric, Jessica Stinson and husband Jason, Amy Cook, Margo Hughes and husband Sam, Emily Wrestler, Jennifer Cook, Erryn Kindle, Jeffrey James, Bryan Kindle; sisters, Winona Lee and husband Robert of Kansas City, Missouri, and Bertha Black and husband Ralph of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; five great grandchildren, Wyatt Melton, Ebony Hughes, Kinley Stinson, Harper Melton and Emery Hughes; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; aunts and uncles. Dorothy was not only a wife and mother but worked at the Treasurer’s Office and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office; twenty years at COF Training Services and twenty-three years at Cook’s Service all of Ottawa, plus lots of other bookkeeping jobs, retiring in October 2005. She continued to volunteer at Kansas Guardianship Program. She was baptized on March 3, 1935, and confirmed June 5, 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church, Albion, Nebraska. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and current President Chapter of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
