Dorman Jerry Hurt, age 77, of Osawatomie, Kansas, died Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Olathe Medical Center. Dorman was born March 23, 1940 at Paola, Kansas. He was the youngest of three children born to Burnice E. and Velma D. (Hink) Hurt. He grew up in Paola and graduated from Paola High School with the Class of 1958. Dorman served our country in the United States Army. After being honorably discharged on November 30, 1965, he served six years in the reserves. Dorman and Julia Shaffer were united in marriage on March 22, 1958 at Miami, Oklahoma. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of three sons. Dorman worked as a custodian at the Osawatomie Schools. He worked for the City of Osawatomie in the water department. In the late '70s, he went to work for Rural Water District #2 where he remained employed for 27 years before retiring in 2005. Having three sons, Dorman spent many years coaching baseball, from t-ball to minor league to little league. He enjoyed fishing and the State Lake was his favorite fishing spot. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Cleona McDonald. He is survived by his wife Julia of the home; three sons Bruce (Martha), Brent, and Bradley all of Osawatomie; his brother Dallas Hurt of Las Cruces, New Mexico; 3 grandchildren Krystal, Kyle, and Kaylee Hurt; one great grandson Brock Hurt; many other relatives and friends. Family and friends are encouraged to post their condolences and memories on Dorman's tribute wall.
