Doris Wobker Summers

October 16, 1928 — January 6, 2013

Doris Pauline Hills Wobker Summers, 84, of Ottawa, KS died January 6, 2013. She was born October 16, 1928 near Lane, Kansas, the daughter of Ansel and Jessie Doman Hills. She married Lawrence Dewaine Wobker on June 30, 1947 in Osawatomie, Kansas. They had three children, Larry Dean, James Lyle and Tony Lynn. Lawrence died on September 30, 1973, and six years later she married Paul Randall Summers on July 6,1979 in Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2011. Doris grew up on a farm in rural Franklin County, Kansas and graduated from Lane High School in 1946. She was a farmer"s wife and milked cows, had a garden, ran the household, was the accountant and in her later years adequately spoiled the grandchildren. She loved to read. Books, magazines, newspapers; she read them all, she read to her children often and early in their lives. Her boys benefited vastly from this attention and that made it much easier for them through their years of schooling. In her later years milking the Holsteins was replaced by feeding the birds and bird watching. The heavy duty garden was replaced by flowers of all varieties and pots of ornamental plants. She was a long time member of the Spring Ridge Ladies Aid and has a large number of quilts to show that her association with that organization was very fruitful. She was preceded in death by her parents Ansel and Jessie Hills; sister Martha Jean Lash; brother Cleo Allen Hills; and husbands Lawrence Wobker and Paul Summers. Doris is survived by sisters Fern Marie Lee, Dorothy Mae Chrisjohn and Delores Elaine Dyer; and brother Asa Lloyd Hills. Other survivors are her sons Larry Wobker and his wife Betty of Clemmons, NC, Lyle Wobker and his wife Rita of Paola, KS, and Lynn Wobker and his wife Darlene, of Osawatomie, KS;five grandchildren;and four great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Midland Hospice or Christian Care Cottage c/o Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home.
