Doris R. Heckert, 74, of Ottawa, Kansas died on Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Wellsville Manor Care Center in Wellsville, Kansas. She was born on Saturday, March 10, 1934, in Topeka, Kansas. She was the daughter of David and Bertha (Gebhard) Peterson. She grew up in Topeka, moving to Ottawa in 1956. Doris graduated from Seaman High School in Topeka, with the class of 1952. She worked for U.S.D. #290 as a Paraprofessional for Hawthorne Grade School for nineteen years, retiring in 1997. She previously worked as a clerk for Franklin County Register of Deeds. Doris was a member of Grace Episcopal Church of Ottawa; Ottawa Assembly #136, Social Order of the Beauceant; and Ottawa Shrine #19, White Shrine of Jerusalem. She was a volunteer for Ransom Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary; Franklin County Election Board; and former Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. On November 10, 1966, Doris was united in marriage with John L. Heckert in Ottawa, Kansas. He survives of their home. Survivors include: Husband-John L. Heckert of their home Daughter-Nancy Shumate & her husband, Jeff, of Ottawa, Kan. Daughter-Donna Jones of Ottawa, Kan. Son-John L. Heckert II & his wife, Dawn, of Overland Park, Kan. Grandchildren-Five Gt. Grandchild-One She was preceded in death by: Father-David Peterson Mother-Bertha K. (Gebhard) Peterson Sister-Deane Harris Sister-Betty Wilson SERVICES: The Mass of Christian Burial: Rite One will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Ottawa, at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2008. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Doris at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Grace Episcopal Church or Ronald McDonald Family Room at The Children`s Mercy Hospital, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
