Doris Mae Smith, age 92, of Stilwell, Kansas, died August 9, 2013 at the Louisburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born October 15, 1920 in Stilwell, KS, the daughter of Wiley D. and Ethel (Tracy) Smith. She attended school in Stilwell, graduating from Stilwell High School in 1938. Doris married Clyde R. Smith on June 9, 1940. They were married 63 years. Following high school Doris worked for Hallmark. But she spent most of her married life supporting Clyde. When he was a rural mail carrier she filled in at the post office. When Clyde became a land developer and homebuilder Doris worked alongside him in all areas of the business. A lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Stilwell, Doris sang in the choir, was active in the women"s ministry, helped with Vacation Bible School, worked in the kitchen, and studied in Sunday school and Bible Study. Along with Clyde, Doris was a charter member of the Stilwell Community Organization, who honored the Smiths with the pledge to name the road into a community park Doris and Clyde Smith Drive for their dedication to the Fourth of July Parade and fireworks display. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her only brother, Raymond, who was killed in World War II. Doris is survived by her son, Ronald Smith and wife Jan; daughter Joyce Read and husband Marvin, all of Stilwell; four grandchildren, Jennifer Mendizabal, Angela Forster, Timothy Smith, and Jonathan Smith; eleven great-grandchildren Mikhail Mendizabal, Max Mendizabal, Gus Mendizabal, Matt Forster, Trace Forster, Tucker Brown, Allie Brown, Cooper Smith, Annabel Smith, Harper Smith, and Asher Smith. The family suggests contributions to the First Baptist Church of Stilwell.
