Doris Jane George, 87, of Waverly, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018, at Peterson Healthcare, Osage City, Kansas. Family will meet with friends from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., Thursday, January 25, 2018, at the Dennis George residence, 3959 Old Hwy 59, Ottawa, Kansas. Private family inurnment at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City, Kansas. Doris Jane George was born September 18, 1930 on the family farm near Norwood, Kansas. The daughter of Frank James and Lena Pearl (Wineinger) Craven. She married John D. George on February 26, 1949 at Iola, Kansas. They lived on farms around Iola, Yates Center and Garnett, moving to the Waverly area farm in 1955. Doris and John moved to their home in Waverly in 1977. Doris worked many years helping John doing all the farm work. About the only thing she did not do was combine the wheat. She loved working in the fields helping John in any way she could. Her favorite pastimes were growing beautiful flowers to share with friends and making crafts to give away to family, friends and charities. She was active in the United Methodist Church, taught Sunday school for many years, and provided numerous baked goods for church functions. She was a member of the Lucky Grange and was involved in their fund-raising activities. Doris will be remembered by all the family for her delicious chocolate and lemon pies, dinner and cinnamon rolls and the wonderful beef and noodle dinners, and the special Kodak moments. She was a Dietary Aid at Sunset Nursing Home for 13 years. She took a leave of absence devoting her life to care for her husband and mother. She started her education at Liberty and New Union one-room schoolhouse in Franklin County. Then to elementary school at Hartford for the 4th thru 6th grade, and in 1942, Doris moved to Neosho Falls, finishing her education in 1948. Doris is survived by a daughter, Vicki Joan and husband Robert Martin of Alpharetta, Georgia. Two sons, Douglas Wayne and wife Priscilla of Topeka and Dennis Lee and wife Teri of Ottawa. Seven grandchildren, Nathan, Tanner and Tiffany George Liesmann and husband Tim; Kaitlin and John Martin; and Julianne and Zachary George. Four great grandchildren, Oliver, Miles and Roland Liesmann; and Lennon George. Doris is preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brothers, Wayne, Gene and Don.
