Doris Mae Hayes, formerly of Paola, Kansas passed away peacefully on February 19, 2018 in Osawatomie, Kansas at the age of 90. Doris is survived by three of her sons: Richard Williams, his wife Linda of Paola, Kansas, Randy Hayes of Hillsdale, Kansas, Russell Hayes of Paola, Kansas, and her daughter Rita Chowins, her husband David Chowins of Lewisville, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jess Louk of Tampa, Florida, Ryan Hayes of Weatherford, Texas, Rachelle Rhodes of Spring Hill, Kansas, Rich Hayes of Paola, Kansas, Russell Hayes, Jr. of Paola, Kansas, Rachel Cunnyngham of Arlington, Texas and Landry Spence of Sanger, Texas, along with twenty-one great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her seven siblings, her former husband, Raymond Hayes, her sons, Ronald Hayes and Robert Hayes and her grandson Lance Hayes. Doris was born in Fort Collins, Colorado on August 13, 1927 to Charles and Nellie Williams. She married Raymond Hayes in 1953. They lived in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, then Spokane, Washington and settled in the Paola, Kansas area. The couple welcomed six children into their home then divorced in 1968. Doris spent the majority of her life as a homemaker. Her children remember her as a kind, caring, driven woman who would do anything to protect her family. She was a dedicated, generous, hardworking individual who loved spending time with her family, helping others in need, gardening and searching for the most unusual rocks while pulling weeds within a mile or more of her home or wherever she was visiting. Doris loved doing anything outdoors, she was passionate about making the world a more beautiful place. Visitation is 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018 with the funeral service immediately following at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS with the burial at Hillsdale Cemetery. Laurie Johnson will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Doris Mae Hayes at the Community Center in Hillsdale, Kansas following the burial. The family would like to thank the staff of Life Care in Osawatomie, Kansas for the care given to Doris over the last ten years. Any donations to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
