Dora Marie Cortner, age 98, of Louisburg, Ks. died Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Overland Park Regional Hospital, Overland Park, Ks. She was born on November 25, 1910, in Louisburg, KS, the daughter of Marcus A. and Mary J. (Thomas) Wells. She lived in Virginia from 1938 " 1951 living the rest of her life in the Louisburg area. She was united in marriage to Henderson E. Cortner on July 2, 1938 at Paola, Ks. Dora was a cook for the Louisburg USD 416 School District before retiring. She graduated from Louisburg Rural High School with the class of 1931. She was a volunteer for the American National Red Cross Association during WW II. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Louisburg, KS. Dora loved to crochet and enjoyed sharing it with many family & friends. Dora also spent many hours of enjoyment listening to the K.C. Royals and K.U. Basketball on the radio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henderson in 1951, 1 daughter, Dorelie C. Miller in 1991, 3 sisters, and 3 brothers. Survivors include 1 granddaughter, Amy (Miller) Allen & husband Jimmy; 2 great grandsons, Thomas Minh & Joseph Douglas Allen, 1 great granddaughter, Piper Nichole Allen; 2 sisters, Dorothy Ann Waite & Mary Elizabeth Miller and 1 brother, Charles E. Wells. Visitation will be from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2009 at the Penwell Gabel Louisburg Chapel. Services will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church with burial in the Louisburg Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be given to the First Christian Church.
