Donnie Paul Davis, 75, Rantoul, Kansas, passed away Friday, June 6, 2014, at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at Ruhamah Baptist Church, Rantoul, 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 10, 2014. Family will meet with friends, at the church, 6:30 to 8:00 P.M., Monday, June 9, 2014. Interment Ruhamah Cemetery, Rantoul, Kansas. Military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Donnie was born Sunday, November 20, 1938, in Promise City, Iowa, the son of Hurley Ivan and Florence Marie (Poli) Davis. He attended school in Iowa. As a teenager, he lived in Kansas City, Kansas, moving in 1961 to Rantoul. Donnie was drafted into the United States Army, where he served as a prison guard at Ft. Leavenworth, obtaining the rank of Specialist 4. Donnie worked for Western Auto’s home office in Kansas City, Missouri. It was there he met his future wife, Nellie Irene Dingus. Three and a half months later, they were united in marriage February 14, 1959, in Pleasanton, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his two children, Jack Davis and wife Lisa of Princeton, and Darla Ouellette and husband Ed of Rantoul; seven grandchildren, D.J. Ouellette and wife Alissa, Katie Underwood and husband John, Vincent Ouellette and wife Kira, Ellen “Elli” Unruh and husband Daniel, and Wade, Tristan and Megan Davis; three great-grandchildren, Addison and Arlen Underwood, and Payton Ouellette; four siblings, Dallas Davis and wife Nona of Olathe, Richard Davis of Norwalk, Iowa, Betty Sulser and husband John of Plano, Iowa, and Helen “Rene” Butler and husband Harry of Tipton, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Bobbie Davis. Donnie was a hard-working farmer and stockman on the family farm in Rantoul, he also was employed at Delco Remy Battery Plant, Olathe, as an assemblyman for thirty years, retiring June 30, 1989. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 1021. Donnie enjoyed trail riding with his children and grandchildren, deer and coon hunting, fishing, raising Boston Terriers, and singing karaoke.
