Donna Sue Miller, 66, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2021, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 1, 2021, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 31, 2021, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Donna was born May 30, 1954, at Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of LeRoy Ira Thompson and Effie Juanita (Nicholson) Thompson. She grew up in Ottawa, moving to Topeka, Kansas where she lived for 15 years. In 2010, Donna moved to Osawatomie, Kansas. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1972 and continued her education at Washburn University receiving her Mental Health Technician Certificate. Donna was united in marriage to Jerry Spencer October 6, 1972, at Ottawa. They later divorced. She married Alvin R. Miller, Jr. March 23, 1980, at Ottawa. They later divorced. Donna was employed as a licensed Mental Health Technician with Topeka State Hospital in the early 1980’s to the late 1990’s and Osawatomie State Hospital from the early 2000’s until her retirement in 2014. She was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and First Southern Baptist Church in Topeka. Donna was also involved as a Girl Scout Leader while living in Topeka. Donna enjoyed arts and crafts, canning, painting and ceramics, making jewelry, shopping online, and going to the casino. She loved her family and always enjoyed the time they spent together. Her grandchildren were the sunshine of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her two children, Curtiss Spencer of Lawrence, and Amie Miller also of Lawrence; four siblings, Carol Troutman of Osawatomie, David (Sheilla) Thompson of Traskwood, Arkansas, Philip Thompson of Basehor, Kansas, and Daniel (Melody) Thompson of Leavenworth, Kansas; and three grandchildren, Kaylie “Dannyl” Miller, Evanie Miller, and Sophie Miller. The family suggests memorial contributions to Life Care Center of Osawatomie c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
