Donna M. Patry

Donna May Patry, wife, mother, grandmother, cousin, and friend went to be with our Lord on Monday, October 22, 2018 at the age of 75 after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 26, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A rosary will be held at 6:30 P.M., Thursday, October 25th, at Dengel & Son Mortuary followed by a visitation where family will meet with friends. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Born in Glendale, California to Maynard Emery and Ellen Salome “Sally” (Collins) Reinecke, Donna moved with her parents back to Ottawa, Kansas following her father’s last tour of duty in the Navy. In 1961, she graduated from Ottawa High School and later worked for Hallmark Cards in Lawrence for 33 years until her retirement in 1998. After moving to Horton, Kansas in 1998, Donna also worked part-time at a Hallmark retail store in nearby Hiawatha for several years. She and her husband Charles moved back to Ottawa in 2012. On June 13, 1981, Donna was united in marriage to Charles Patry. He survives of the home. Other survivors include two daughters, Julie Heidenreich and husband Al of Hudson, Wisconsin and Sara Patry of Topeka. Three grandchildren, Melissa Crowell and husband Kirk of Atkinson, Maine; Matthew Hobbs and wife Desarae of Olathe; and Daisy Tinkham of Lawrence. Two great-grandchildren and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maynard and Sally Reinecke and a son, Donald Hobbs. Donna was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa. She was active in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority in both Ottawa and Hiawatha and, being an avid reader, became involved with the Horton Friends of the Library; later sitting a term on the library board. She never hesitated to lend a helping hand in the community both before and after her diagnosis. She loved reading, art; both collecting and creating, and loved her family most of all.
