Donna D. Dunn

June 21, 1932 — July 13, 2022

Donna D. Dunn, 90, of Ottawa, Kansas, was reunited with her husband Bob, her parents, and other beloved family members in Heaven on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. She now rejoices with them in the presence of our Lord Jesus. A graveside service and interment will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 18, 2022, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Donna was born on June 21, 1932, on a farm in the Chippewa Hills west of Ottawa, Kansas, to her parents, Herschel and Ellen (Young) Kunard. She moved with her family to Ventura, California in 1936, but returned to Kansas the following year, where her father farmed with her Grandpa Young in Chippewa. Donna started school in Chippewa in 1938 but moved with her family again in 1944. She continued grade school at the Black Jack School west of Baldwin in 1946. Donna completed her education at Wellsville High School, graduating with the WHS Class of 1951. Donna was born into a strong Christian family and was baptized as a young girl. She was a former member of the Wellsville Baptist, Ruhamah Baptist, and North Baptist churches in Franklin County, Kansas. In those years she served numerous times as a deaconess. In later years she and her husband Bob became members of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ottawa, where she remained a member until her move to Heaven. Donna was married to Robert E. Dunn on April 11, 1954, at the Wellsville Baptist Church. They have 4 children from this union; Robert “Stan” Dunn (Connie), Gary Dunn (Sheryl), Richard Dunn (Janie), and Barb Nelson (Ken); all of Ottawa, Kansas. Bob and Donna have 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was a homemaker for many years until she drove a school bus for USD 290. Later she worked in Ottawa, Kansas at the Parmelee Manufacturing Company and at King Radio, where she received her five-year recognition pin. Donna augmented Bob’s volunteer work in Kiwanis and the Kansas Army National Guard. Her real passion, however, was working at home taking care of her family. In later years she frequently doted on her grandchildren, serving as a babysitter and encourager. Donna truly loved her family, and frequently looked back with fond and passionate memories of her life raising her kids on their farm southeast of Ottawa. So many wonderful family and holiday gatherings occurred on that farm, and those times are part of the enduring legacy that Donna leaves with us. It was a difficult transition for both Bob and Donna when they reluctantly decided to sell the farm and move to their new home in Ottawa due to their declining health. Eventually, after Bob passed in late 2020, Donna’s own health issues prompted her move to Rock Creek Care Center in Ottawa, and then Vintage Park of Ottawa, where she made her home until her death. Donna, Mom, Grandma is now at home with Christ, never again to be bothered by heartaches, poor health, worries or worldly concerns. However, her gain has become the temporary loss for her family and many friends, as her absence leaves a void that only she could fill. Nonetheless, her indelible influence lives on in the lives of those who lived life with her in this world, and our personal memories of her are now enduring treasures. Donna is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; brother Wayne Kunard (Vera), sister Joy Kunard, sisters-in-law Cora Kunard and Loretta Kunard; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob; parents, Herschel and Ellen Kunard; brothers Joe Kunard, John Kunard, and Dwayne Kunard who died in infancy; sister June Greiner and brother-in-law Steve Greiner; daughter-in-law Connie Dunn, and nephew Bryant Kunard. The family suggests memorial contributions to Crossroads Hospice c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
