Donald W. "Don" Smith

Donald W. Smith, age 77, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Richmond Care Center in Richmond, Kansas. He was born on Sunday, May 1, 1932, in Ottawa, Kansas. He was the son of Lee and Alma (Gebhard) Smith. He was a lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident. Don owned and operated Don’s Auto Repair in Ottawa from 1973 to 1997. From July of 1997 to March of 2008, he was a driver for Franklin County Senior Center and also a delivery driver for Kramer Pharmacy from October of 2006 to January of 2008. He served as a Sgt. in the United States Army during the Korean War from October 27, 1952 to October 14, 1954. He earned the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and Good Conduct Medal. He was released from active military service and transferred to Army Reserve to complete eight years service. He was a member of Franklin County Blazer Shrine Club; Ottawa Lodge #18, A.F. Abdallah Shrine Temple; Ottawa Antique Auto Club; Ottawa Promenaders; and Ottawa TNT Club. On January 3, 1957, Don was united in marriage with Opal J. Stoffer in Ottawa. She preceded him in death on March 20, 1997. On April 28, 2001, Don was united in marriage with JoAnn Elise (Ogg) Kotorakos in Williamsburg, Kansas. She survives. Hi is survived by his: Wife-JoAnn Elise (Ogg) Kotorakos Smith Son-Tony Smith of Olpe, Kansas Daughter-April Zook of Ottawa, Kansas Daughter-Annette Paugh of Richmond, Kansas Son-Doug Morgan of Pomona, Kansas Ten Grandchildren Twelve Gt.Grandchildren Don is preceded in death by hs: Wife-Opal J. (Stoffer) Smith Parents-Lee and Alma (Gebhard) Smith Infant Daughter-Andrea Lea, November 19, 1963 Twelve brothers and sisters including his twin sister, DeLaine Smith SERVICES: Private family services will be held at a later date.
