Donald W. “Don” Ball, 77, of Wellsville, Kansas passed away Monday, November 25, 2013 at Wellsville Retirement Community. Funeral services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 2, 2013. Family will meet with friends one hour prior to service. Interment Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas Don was born on Monday, September 7, 1936 in Ottawa, Kansas. He was the son of John W. and Georgia M. (Brown) Ball. He was a lifelong Franklin County resident living in Wellsville since 1997 moving from Princeton. He graduated from Wellsville High School with the class of 1955 and continued his education at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology receiving his Associates Degree. On August 2, 1997 Don was united in marriage with Mary Murphy Jones in Wellsville, Kansas. She survives of their home. Also surviving are his daughter, Janet Goodenow and husband Mark of Westmoreland, Kansas; two grandchildren, Luke Goodenow of Manhattan, and Heather Goodenow of Westmoreland; twin brother, Ron Ball and wife Wilma of Princeton; sister, Sharon Higgins and husband Donn of Princeton; and several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents. From the late 1950’s to the mid 1970’s Don was a personal assistant and driver for Mrs. A. L. Cook and later Ruth Suplee both of Ottawa. For twenty-three years starting in the mid 1970’s he worked at the Franklin County Sale Barn as an auctioneer assistant. Don attended the Wellsville United Methodist Church, was a charter member of the Kansas State Horse Show Circuit 1964, Kansas Quarter Horse Association, and the American Quarter Horse Association.
