Donald Lloyd 'Don' Sellers was born November 22, 1930. He was the son of Melvin L. and Lola E. (Cordell) Sellers. A lifelong resident, Don made his home in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas, until his death Monday, July 14, 2003, at the age of seventy-two years. Don graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1949 and attended Ottawa University. From 2000 to present, Don worked for Benchmark Industries in Olathe and from 1999 to present, Ottawa Maytag, and later Mr. C's Affordable Maytag. From 1984 to 1997, he was co-owner/operator of Ottawa Home Furnishings. From the mid 1960's to 1984, he was co-owner/operator of Benner-Williams Home Furnishings, Ottawa. From 1958 to the mid 1960's, he worked for Quinn's Furniture, Ottawa. He was a fifty-year member of First United Methodist Church, Ottawa. He was a member and Past Master of Ottawa Lodge #18, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons; Abdallah Shrine of Overland Park; Franklin County Shrine Club; Scottish Rite Consistory of Lawrence; York Rite Bodies of Ottawa; Ottawa Lodge #803, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; and, member and past President of Sertoma International. Don was involved and coached youth baseball for twenty-six years. On September 19, 1951, Don was united in marriage with Janie Laws at Ottawa. They later divorced. On July 9, 1994, Don was united in marriage with Norma J. (Stoffer) Miller at Ottawa. She survives of their home. Also surviving are five sons, Jay Dee Sellers and his wife, Karen, Austin, Texas, Jeff Sellers and his wife, Debbie, Topeka, Kansas, Jamie Sellers and his wife, Carissa, Rosman, North Carolina, Jere Sellers and his wife, Veronica, Prairie Village, Kansas, and Jason Sellers and his wife, Angie, Orange, Texas; two step-daughters, Kim Miller, Lawrence, Kansas and Kellee Allen, Ottawa, Kansas, a sister, Gladys Usher and her husband, Lenny, Burnet, Texas and a brother, Kenneth Sellers and his wife, Alice, Boise, Idaho, and grandchildren, Jessica Sellers, Hillary Sellers, Amanda Sellers, Sarah Sellers, Ryan Sellers, Erin Sellers, Shelby Sellers, Nathan Sellers, A. J. Sellers, Sadie Sellers, Mikala Allen and Paige Allen. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from First United Methodist Church, Ottawa, 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2003. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Dr. Jerry Harnden and Kevin Holman. IN STATE: Mr. Sellers will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas, with Masonic services. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Shriner Children's Hospital or First United Methodist Church, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
