Donald R. Schamle, 89, of Wellsville, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019. A rosary will be held at 9:30 A.M., Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church followed by a memorial mass at 10:00 A.M. Inurnment Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ottawa. Don was born September 23, 1929, in Vassar, the son of Charles J. and Julia M. (Fawl) Schamle. He spent his childhood years in rural Douglas County, living the rest of his life in rural Franklin County. He attended Appanoose High School and Ottawa High School. Don was united in marriage to Phyllis Ann Fischer October 4, 1952, in Ottawa. She preceded him in death on March 9, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Julia Schamle; brother, Charles E. Schamle and wife Patricia; and sister-in-law, Darlene Schamle. Survivors include his seven children, Rodney Schamle and wife Torey of Stillwell, KS, Jeanie Guilfoyle and husband William of Fort Scott, KS, Rosemary Ramundo and husband Bruce of Manhattan, KS, Keith Schamle and wife Joyce of Phillips, NE, Therese Falls and husband Stephen of Topeka, KS, Donna Arnold and husband Merton of Mansfield, MA, and Roberta Gloshen and husband Daryl of Ottawa, KS; two siblings, Dale Schamle of Buhler, KS, and Darlene Cook and husband Cecil of Merritt Island, FL; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Don was a farmer/stockman all his life. He also was employed with Smith & Loveless in Lenexa for 25 years as a truck driver, retiring December 1989. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 3018 of Ottawa, Power of the Past Antique Tractor & Engine Club, and former member of the Franklin County Board of Zoning Appeals. Don and his wife enjoyed watching their children and grandchildren grow and mature into adults, farming and raising Angus cattle, traveling with Phyllis, camping with family, and model railroads.
