Donald R. “Don” Carver, 89, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, September 12, 2022, with his family by his side.
Family will meet with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2022, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.
Inurnment will be held later at Maple Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas.
Don was born October 16, 1932, in Carbondale, Kansas, the son of Alta Raymond and Lena (Turner) Carver.
He lived in various locations throughout his life including Topeka, Kansas for 11 years; Kansas City, Kansas for 30 years; Princeton, Kansas for 3 years; and Ottawa, Kansas for 10 years.
He graduated from Highland Park High School with the class of 1950 and Washburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1962.
Don served in the United States Army during the Korean War with the rank of PVT.
On May 29, 1954, Don was united in marriage to Geraldine Birdsong in Topeka, Kansas. They were happily married 51 years and were blessed with seven children, Debra, Timothy, Cindy, Robert, Katherine, Phillip, and Raymond. She preceded him in death on October 10, 2005.
On June 11, 2010, Don married Glenda (Gieber) Elder in Colorado. She survives of the home after 12 years of marriage.
He was employed with Dickinson Theaters in Mission, Kansas, as a Project Manager for forty-five years, retiring in 2002
He was a life member of the American Legion of Topeka. Don enjoyed bowling, fishing, and traveling. Later in life he looked forward to the Meals on Wheels deliveries.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alta and Lena Carver; 1st wife Geraldine Carver; daughter Cindy Wilson; son Robert Carver; four siblings, Nadine Carver, John Carver, Jim Carver, and Lavonne Carver.
Survivors include his wife Glenda of the home; five children, Debra Pope of Garnett, Kansas, Timothy (Renée) Carver of Prairie Village, Kansas, Katherine (Randy) Smith of Richmond, Kansas, Phillip (Sheila) Carver of Topeka, Kansas, and Raymond (Tonia) Carver of Kansas City, Missouri; three siblings, Paul Carver of California, Alice Carver of Topeka, and Dorothy Jackson also of Topeka; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Mid-America Nutrition Program c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
