Donald Peckman

December 10, 1927 — February 25, 2010

Donald Dean Peckman, age 82 of Paola, Kansas passed away Thurs., Feb. 25th at his home in the rural Block Community. Don was born on December 10, 1927 in the Block Community to Carl and Ida Minden Peckman, and lived his entire life in the area, and was confirmed and baptized at the Block Trinity Lutheran Church. On July 4, 1951 he was united in marriage to Pat Prothe in Paola before being shipped out with the Army to the Korean War. He served his country in the United States Army as a tank retriever until his honorable discharge. Don worked for Ted Crawford Budweiser Distributorship as an over the road truck driver, owned and operated the Phillips 66 Station in Paola; and while with the Pipefitters union, worked as a foreman for the construction of the LaCygne Power Plant. He retired from the Pipefitters Union 533 after many years of employment. After his retirement he enjoyed working cattle on the family farm, feeding the honey bees, gardening, raising an orchard, woodworking, picking up walnuts, cutting wood and working with his hands. Don is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Chuck; and a sister, Verna. Surviving are his wife Pat of the home; daughter, Terri and husband Chuck Weis of Paola; granddaughter, Rebecca Hurst of Drexel; brothers, Harold and Dennis Peckman, and one sister, Frances Minter all of the Block community. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Memorials may be made to the Olathe Hospice.
