Donald Smeltzer, 60, Ottawa, died Monday, March 3, 2008, at his home. No services are planned. He was born June 22, 1947, at Pawhuska, Okla., to Cotton Smeltzer and Annabel Martin. He grew up in Pawhuska, Okla. He moved to Savonburg after his military service and to Ottawa in 1997. He served in the U.S. Navy from August 1965 to August 1971, attaining the rank of SA E-2. He served on the USS New Jersey (BB 62) and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a member of the Ottawa Lynx Bad English Pool League. He worked as a machinist at Skyhook, Ottawa, for the past 27 years. He also worked as a tire technician at the Wal-Mart Supercenter automotive department, Ottawa. He married Mary Jo (Stevenson) Allen Dec. 5, 2000, at Richmond. She survives. Survivors also include sons, Nicki Smeltzer, Chanute, Charles Smeltzer, Kansas, and Daniel O. Allen, Ottawa; a daughter, Carrie Ann Allen, and her boyfriend, Mikael Englund, Ottawa; brothers, Keith Martin, Ikey and Billy Jo; a sister, Terry Flagerty; a grandson, Marcius Dewayne Allen, Ottawa; and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, George Smeltzer. Cremation is planned.
